Sukanya had a successful acting career, which included primarily Bengali TV Serials and also feature films. Her long list of TV serials include 'Darpa Churna', 'Swapner Bazaar', 'Chena Achena', 'Singha Bahini' etc.

                        Besides acting in TV soaps she was the host of one of the most popular Musical program on Doordarshan - Gaan Antaheen. This was a weekly programme, which she conducted for over two years.

                        Among some of her Bengali feature films are 'Lal Darja', 'Thikana', 'Chakranta', ‘Mone Mone’, 'Aamar Sathi', 'Jiban Pradeep', 'Mon Pakhi', etc. Again as a complement to her versatility she has acted in an Oriya film called 'Bhagiratha'.

Sukanya acted alongside the veteran actor Dhritiman Chaterji in the Telefilm "Agnishwar" under the Ati Uttam series on ETV-Bangla aired in August 2006.

    Darpachurna
Darpachurna” was the first TV serial of Sukanya where she played “Indu”, the main role of the novel,written by the all time favorite and legendary writer Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Still in her teens, Sukanya carried out the role of this ambitious woman who is torn between her love and ego for her husband. Her triumphant success in Darpachurna was the first step toward the public recognition.
 
Durghatana” was one of the stories of the serial “Chena Achena” where Sukanya played the lead role. The story centers around this female character that has a mystery past and other characters are easily affected as well as dominated by her.
 
Pujari” was another story of the serial “Chena Achena” where Sukanya played the character of a young wife of a middle aged man who has a sweet charm that attracts people. This charm does not even exclude colleagues of her husband or her ex-boyfriend with whom she had a relation before marriage.
 
Swapner Bazaar” was one of the most popular serials of the time where Sukanya played the character of an actress who gets wrongly involved with the murder of her husband. How she gets framed as a murderess by an influential person with the help of an underworld don and how she gets out of the web unscathed, was one of the main attractions of the story.
 
Singhabahini” gave a dynamic role to Sukanya to play. Here she played a non-Bengali businesswoman with a high ambition being the wife of a crooked and rather old husband. She gives the hero a job in her company and later falls in love with him.
