                        Sukanya started singing when she was just a child. Her first performance was at the Calcutta Radio Station at the age of 3. She comes from the classical music background, having completed her 'Sangeet Prabhakar' (graduation in Music) from Prayag Sangeet Samity, Allahabad at the tender age of 11, an achievement in itself. Now she is a popular singer and already has five solo albums released by important record companies including PolyGram and T-Series. Besides these solo albums her songs have been released in several Albums along with other esteemed vocal artists. Many of her songs are derivatives from Indian classical music - a type of music known as 'Ragashrayee', which means modern songs composed on a fabric of classical music. Many of her songs are 'Modern' and 'Folk' based too.

                        Besides performing on stage and recording songs for her albums she is a B-High artist in All India Radio. She was also the host of the most popular Musical TV programme on Doordarshan (India's official Broadcasting Network) that was watched by around 100 million people. The name of the programme was 'Gaan Antaheen' and ran for two years earning one of the highest viewer ship ratings in Bengali TV during her tenure. The programme included a solo performance by her.

                        Sukanya can sing in Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi, Oriya and Bhojpuri. She has done several hundred live performances, many of them with an audience in excess of 15,000.

                        She has a distinctive and original voice that demonstrates her ability to perform a wide variety of songs.
